Freedman Named Head Basketball Coach at Kiski School

Kiski School, a Boys Private School established in 1888, took a big step in the Basketball world as they named former NBA and Division 1 College Basketball Coach Daryn Freedman, the Director of Basketball Stars of America AAU and Hoop Mountain PA Basketball Camp as their new Men’s Basketball Coach.

Freedman came to the Pittsburgh area in the spring of 2006 as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Duquesne University under Head Coach Ron Everhart. Freedman established himself at Duquesne by putting together one of the nation’s top recruiting classes in his first year, which included Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Robert Mitchell. Freedman left Duquesne in August of 2007 to start Basketball Stars of America, a year-round Basketball development program which has helped more than 2,000 young basketball players from Western Pennsylvania improve their basketball skills. BSA has also become one of the nation’s top AAU programs, as it featured close to 80 teams in the Spring of 2009. The 17U Nike Elite Team also won the AAU National Classic Championship in Orlando, Florida, this summer. Freedman coached that team.

Kiski School, located in Saltsburg, PA and established in 1888, is an all-boys Boarding School which features 9th through 12th grade and Post Graduate programs. The school sits on a 350-acre campus. Freedman says the interest in the school and Basketball program have already been great. “There are a lot of great student-athletes applying to get in. I have used my network of college, high school and AAU basketball coaches to identify potential prospects for the school. I will continue to use this network to help these players pick colleges and earn scholarships,” said coach Freedman, who coached Brimmer and May School in Boston, MA for 4 seasons from 2001 to 2005 and led the team to 4 League Championships and the 2005 New England Prep School Championship.

The Kiski School Men’s Basketball program will be one to watch in the coming years.
